The Stranger Say's Hello

Image
wildflowers greeted me on one side... little flowers with butterflies on the breeze ride to one oasis I stopped and I see... adam's children play and glee. The traversing path, I walked again... to the distant shelter, my eyes attain... never have I looked back and saw Never I have found, faults or flaw One group, amidst travel I spot To my eyes a beautiful scene brought... watchful parents, watching children play  contemplation of God's plan which lay In another spot, I found a wise adult chopping wood, green lush tree, chopped for pyre queued. the reason for chopping...I ask the man To my lengthening shadow, he scans... Further, I walked to the pool, where some men lay covered in clay, their hair turned gray... I asked for their names, of them  one smile I knew long is the distance traversed, though seemed miles few The children which gleefully play,  Graying now in front of me lay... Now we have come to a concave shallow A stranger saying

Permanence

Image
A dewy dew drop, all pearly and transparent With all the hopes and happiness inherent Lands on a leaf sheaf, thin and lean With rays of the sun its body sheen.                                        A wildflower, yawned awakened                                       Seeing the dewy drop, enlivened                                       Reason for dews existence? The flower queried                                        Seeing the warmth grow, it worried. Dewy drop, naïve and cheerful, said On the lean sheaf, it sped, Wonder, why matters existence? Vanished in a whiff leaving no evidence.                                       To the flower the sheaf replied                                       Told tales of dew’s life dignified                                       To come to the aid of a fellow being                                       Permanence in deed and not in existence teaching

Are we there yet??

Are we there yet…? The curious boy, looked out to a window and asked? His question was one of the innumerable he asked since the beginning of the journey. He was going to a new home, it has been quite a while now, he had been searching for a home and no one could take him inside. What would he do? Gentle as his soul was, he never complained but searched again and again and again. But no one could take this boy into their home. No there was nothing wrong with the boy, he was a good, studious, and sturdy kid. He liked reading, walking around the parks, and making an excellent companion but yet no one would take him home. He dreamed of having a house, with lots and lots of toys and things to play with, he dreamed of helping people who could not help themselves, he had bigger dreams than many of the boys of his age ever dreamed of.  It all changed that morning when in the congregation, he looked at this girl who came to meet others just like him. He looked at her and smiled, he thought t

Alchemy

Alchemy… In the far in a distant land, lived a bearded wise Under a flickering lamp, who worked till sunrise. In his hand, a stone, shining white … Turned in gold all the metal with touch and delight. Me, a metal, rough and abrasive, A man with passion yet primitive. You, a philosopher's stone, shining bright turn me then into a shining armor knight. To the stereotypes' tease, let's make this blasphemy Your heart, meeting mine, creating the alchemy. Sharad

Icarus's Lament

To go after what one desires the most, often tears the salty eyes. This lament which Icarus sings brings forth his waxen wings. Refrain then from passions desired great, prey emotions to predatory fate.       The Poem     Icarus's Lament   Modesty is the bane of gentlemen, lesser are concessions and judged the actions Let not tender affections deepen, in prickly thorns of persuasion.                                                                                   What mortal's not to do but feel                                                                                 and to guillotine his character seal                                                                                 and when the eyes of the crowd judge and scorn                                                                                 broken is the heart and into pieces torn   oh..! how good, better and best are wastrels in debauchery and cunningness, they revel to the crowd, they mock and take wha

The Underdog Part 12; The Escape

Image
The plan was superb, it was indeed easy just to run away from the compound, but years of being caged behind strong bars, convinced these dogs that there was nothing they could do. Browny was more determined when some dogs who previously hesitated and were reluctant, joined the plan it was decided. A few days went by, and the conditions of cages began to deteriorate, the disinfectant smell now long gone, was taken over by the overwhelming stench. For older dogs, this was usual relief, they learned to accommodate this stench, the dogs who had lost olfactory senses were as unaware as the smell of disinfectant. Nothing was good about this hellish place. Soon, the day arrived, it was just like a normal day, the people came in with disinfectants, cleaned the cages, uncollared the dogs, washed them, and fed them good food. The dogs were ready... The vehicle of the city people arrived at the gates of the compound and as the gates were opened, there was only a single bark, "Bhow",

The Underdog Part 11; The Plan

Image
The ubiquitous stench that enveloped the compound, did little to help the sleep. The compound was a place of hell and Browny made up the plan to escape this horrible place. It would be nearly impossible to escape the compound as the dogs were never let out of their cages. The only treat was the water that flowed through a channel at the back of the cages. No dog spoiled this channel. This water was as clean as crystal and a thirsty dog would find solace in the cool water flowing through the channel. No. It was not dogly possible to break out of this compound prison. Browny had to think of something else. A few days later, some people dressed peculiarly in whites and wearing odd gears which Browny had not seen anywhere appeared in the compound. They washed the compound with water hoses, that sprayed the floor clean of soot, food, and all. They then leashed each dog with a collar and took them to a special slab where they were washed clean with different soaps. They were made to swim i

The Underdog Part 10; The Compound

Image
The compound was a dark place, no dog of any breed returned alive from the compound. No one knew what happened in the compound, but one did know that they never returned. It was a devil's lair, dark and mysterious, it was a dog's hell.  The wheels of the van screeched as the vehicle came to a halt inside the compound. All the dogs who were agitated due to nervousness stopped barking. The silence was visible, it was on the perspiring tongues and sniffing noses, it was felt while giving a good scratch at the back of the ear and getting orgiastic relief. Browny, bundled himself in the corner of his cage, he pulled his legs towards his belly and wrapped the tail around for comfort. This tiny tail provided safety and comfort in times of distress like the one he was experiencing. He cooed but all the dogs in the van barked at him for being whiny. They had accepted their fate, all of them knew they will not again see the lights of the city and their existence was now at the hands of

The Underdog Part 9; Citylife

Image
Browny ducked and jumped when a speeding truck came to a screeching halt, the truck tires stopped inches away from his tail, and Browny jumped on the platform. It was a second day. Browny roamed in the city, walking on the streets, unaware of any big Trucks or vehicles that used the streets. He simply walked in the middle of the road, looking around at the buildings. Unaware of the rules of the transit, he was often saved by the skin of his hair, from being run over by some vehicle. He quickly learned the use of footpaths. The footpath had different trouble stored for him, the people who walked on the path, would stumble, curse him and fate and move on. He got used to this state. By the end of the week, Browny had managed to survive the paved roads and was looking eagerly for his chance to sit in the car. Surprisingly there were no dogs on the streets, all the dogs that did come onto the streets were chained by the people. Browny would be amazed at the docile dogs, that allowed these

The Underdog Part 8; The City Calling

Image
It is now 2 years and our little Pawteers have settled well into the territory of Blackie, no dog knows what really happened to Blackie, some say he exiled himself to the outskirts of the city, some say he was hit by a big vehicle when crossing the road... there are many such anecdotes, yes anecdotes, for Blackie vanished like smoke in the air... Leaving no trace. None of his shadows remained either, they never terrorized dumpsters or were not seen by any of the dogs on the streets.  In a single sweep, peace returned to the area of the old pipe. The old pipe was removed from its place by the water torrent hence providing no use to any dog living or dead. Our little Pawteers were now not so little, Goldie moved on to make a family and had a litter of her own. Their uncle Raggy would teach them all the tricks to get away from ticks and fleas. They would come to Browny who would keep special meat pieces aside for them. Life was fun. Years had gone by, and the dogs of the mound in their un

The Underdog Part 7; Thunderstorms

Image
A water droplet that played merrily into immense blue that covered most of the earth, metamorphosed into vapor as the summer approached. Beginning its journey across that extensive blue, exploring lands of desert, forests, and mountains. This vapor gathered at the crowd that was already forming and thickening. This time the vapor metamorphosed again into the small droplet, cooled by the air that signaled the arrival of the monsoon. And, as happens with the gathering of people, clustered together the vapor started fighting over the real estate of air. This bickering led to fights and shoutings while these smallest bickerings were not as loud as when the clusters themselves, when these gathered and fought for ever-shrinking real estate, they were the loudest. This dance of sound was a Thunderstorm. Ofcourse when  all this was transpiring above....here on earth, under the safety of pipe, cozied three our lovely Pawteers, shivering and startling at the thunderous sound, the sky looked gr

The Underdog Part 6; Tempest

Image
Few dogs who were running for their life had their tails between their legs and were running abruptly, stopping and barking after covering some distance. The chaos echoed the streets and all the dogs then as in a chorus, barked in unison.  No one knew what had happened, but as in humans every dog coming out of their respective shelters enquired in the loud barking. These sonorous barking increased the speed of already absconding dogs, who thought more dogs have joined the chase and now instead of looking back they sped away from the spot of trouble. It all started when Blackie, put his plan to action when the night was still, heavy with sleep and dawn was just beginning to pull over the blanket of sunrise. Attack happened. The three Pawteers who were unaware of the impending danger looked callously merry as if mocking Blackie in the face. Blackie, looked proud and wagged his tongue to cool off the body that burned as much with exhaustion as with rage. No, one could guess why Blackie,

The Underdog Part 5; Nemesis.

Image
Life was a gift to these Pawteers of ours. they ruled their tiny pipe kingdom and enjoyed its fortunes, the pipe that lay there corroding away to the weather and time was their palace, a stronghold, that provided them with both safety and comfort. But like all the happiness that only lasts for a sliver of time theirs too lasted as much, for they were being watched by Blackie, a ferocious Doberman, who survived until today only due to its agility and ferocity. He wasn't alone or have had any misfortune, Blackie ran from his owner's house when just for a small thing like the little kid of the owner taking his favorite ball, he bit his owner's son and ran from the house. Promising himself to never come back. When Blackie arrived on the outskirts of the city he too faced the same challenges as our dear Browny did, but his reaction to those challenges was altogether different from that of Browny. Blackie, grew up wanting everything for himself, his world was a world of selfish

The Underdog Part 4; Unruly Gang

A little sparrow, which got up early than her usual time, came upon the pipe where our three friends were napping the early morning snore. upon perching herself upon the rim of the pipe, the sparrow looked around cautiously instinctively, and realizing that it was safe to do so, she jumped around one or twice chirping as she did so. When she noticed a slight movement in the mud sludge nearby by her small beady eyes, she pounced on the worm, who after the long night in the mud came to the sun herself. By the time Browny opened his eyes, the sparrow had finished her breakfast and was calling to her other friends about the buffet for the day. This caused a raucous of small birds was disturbing the sleep Raggy and as his disposition towards the birds was, barked a warning and as the birds were accustomed to this barking, did not heed Raggy and his bark, which made him angrier and he jumped at them. The swift and agile birds were no match for Raggy, they flew nearby and mocked him by chir

The Underdog Part 3; Life on the streets

Image
When warm sunlight tingled his sensitive nose, our Browny, opened his still sleepy eyes and he could see Raggy, already busy rolling in the dirt, a sanitizing routine to get rid of fleas and other parasites, it is equivalent to modern baths in spas, and after a thorough roll, when Raggy was satisfied that all the fleas were either squashed or left in the dirt, He shook his body from nose to tail and happily approached Browny. Still sleepy, Browny didn't take long to get infected by his excitement and after stretching his hind legs and giving a good scratch at the back of its ears Browny asked Raggy in a language only a dog  could understand, "What now?"  Raggy had no plans, for he had very little to do as a small dog, he would wait in the pipe till he felt hungry and when he did feel hungry he would go in search of food and eat the best that is on the offer. Roaming around the streets of the city made raggy kind of an expert in leftover foods. He knew exactly where the be

The Underdog Part 2 Friends of the Dumpster.

The night dawned, and the lights which resembled millions of stars like those in the sky flickered. Browny, was overjoyed and overwhelmed at the same time. He had never seen these kinds of lights in the dump yard, which only had a couple of lights at the gate. He walked towards the teeming lights, and slowly these lights took shape. Upon reaching the outskirts, he came upon the sprawling suburban area that marked the periphery of the city.  And to his surprise, there were a few dogs who came to him, smelled him, and asked him about where he came from and where he was going. He told the whole story about the red cloth, the dog in the car, and how he lost his way to the dump yard.  The other dogs, who were confused at this little pup, who had lost his way asked him to go back, for the city will eat him alive. Browny was now oscillating, he was at the crossroad, he could go where his loving mother was, but the place stunk like anything or he could brave the streets of the city and get int
