The Underdog Part 11; The Plan

The ubiquitous stench that enveloped the compound, did little to help the sleep. The compound was a place of hell and Browny made up the plan to escape this horrible place. It would be nearly impossible to escape the compound as the dogs were never let out of their cages. The only treat was the water that flowed through a channel at the back of the cages. No dog spoiled this channel. This water was as clean as crystal and a thirsty dog would find solace in the cool water flowing through the channel. No. It was not dogly possible to break out of this compound prison. Browny had to think of something else.

A few days later, some people dressed peculiarly in whites and wearing odd gears which Browny had not seen anywhere appeared in the compound. They washed the compound with water hoses, that sprayed the floor clean of soot, food, and all. They then leashed each dog with a collar and took them to a special slab where they were washed clean with different soaps. They were made to swim in medicated water that killed all the germs and parasites housed in their furs. Lastly, every dog was given a laxative accompanied by medicinal tablets that made this dog clean from the inside out.

This was a welcome act viewed by the dogs of the compound, irritated by the parasites, some dogs had given up scratching and endured the pain in silence whining once in a while to show discomfort and enduring pain again. Dogs seemed happy, relieved of parasites and germs that exsanguinated them day and night, the stench vanished from the entire compound, and in its place came a chemical smell, familiar to many dogs.

That was the smell of disinfectant, soon the entire compound was as clean as ice. No dust, dirt, or soot of any kind remained. All the dogs were then given a chew bone to relax their aching gums. Soon the food plates containing sumptuous meats arrived and dogs were served lavishly. As the dogs nosed their food soon other people in different clothes arrived. These people looked like many others that walked in the city and they came to every dog patted them, checked them, and scratched them. They played with a couple of dogs, after which they had a long talk with the people from the compound. Once the people who looked like the people from the city went away, the dogs were then taken to the cages in the compound and simply forgotten. No more, cleaning, washing, and disinfecting. Nothing.

Browny, watched all this with amazement, clearly, bribery and loose morals were alien to the dog breed, who are loyal to the person once they accept that person as one of their pack. When Browny asked an old Retriever about the strange cleaning ritual,  the dog who had spent most of his time life in the compound, told Browny of the people from the city, these people come to the compound once in 5 new moons and then all the dogs are taken out of the cages and are allowed to play outside the cage and compound, although, no dog, has ever dared to cross the compound gate no one really stops the dog from doing so.

Browny got the idea, by now he had gotten the complete information from his fellow inmate, and he started planning for the escape when he was done with it. He urged the Retriever to call all the dogs in the cage to gather so that he could tell them his plans for escape. Today Browny said to all the dogs we break our bonds and taste the freedom. he started explaining his plan to all his fellow mates.
