The Underdog Part 4; Unruly Gang

A little sparrow, which got up early than her usual time, came upon the pipe where our three friends were napping the early morning snore. upon perching herself upon the rim of the pipe, the sparrow looked around cautiously instinctively, and realizing that it was safe to do so, she jumped around one or twice chirping as she did so. When she noticed a slight movement in the mud sludge nearby by her small beady eyes, she pounced on the worm, who after the long night in the mud came to the sun herself.

By the time Browny opened his eyes, the sparrow had finished her breakfast and was calling to her other friends about the buffet for the day. This caused a raucous of small birds was disturbing the sleep Raggy and as his disposition towards the birds was, barked a warning and as the birds were accustomed to this barking, did not heed Raggy and his bark, which made him angrier and he jumped at them. The swift and agile birds were no match for Raggy, they flew nearby and mocked him by chirping even more loudly. Anyway Raggy thought it was futile to run after birds and better stretch himself as there is no way he is going to have that succulent meat he was dreaming of.  Browny watched all this with his still sleepy eyes and when he looked around, he found that the bitch wasn't around he wondered where she went, drowsily he went to the place she slept, sniffed around and find no good reason went to Raggy who had just finished rolling in the mud.

When the two friends discussed the disappearance of the stranger, the stranger returned with two bones in her mouth, although a little stale a lump of meat clung to each bone, she put the breakfast in front of her new friends, this was her way of making new friends, being intuitive, she was resourceful and had survived the streets on her own by her instincts and intellect alone. Raggy was overjoyed with the food he received, lazy as he was, it was his good disposition that helped him survive the streets. Browny asked about the food and how she procured it, whereupon she revealed a secret dumping ground, where all the hoteliers dumped the garbage. By the time, Browny finished his inquiry, Raggy had finished his meat and was busy chewing bone expectantly for the bone marrow.

When all had finished their breakfast and hollow bones were discarded for later chewing rituals, the two friends gave a name to the bitch. Goldie, an apt name that reflected a golden coat of soft fur in the sunlight that cloaked her tiny little body. Goldie liked the name and it felt lovely to hear someone call her by that name. She was overwhelmed with affection, nobody showed her kindness and she decided to stick with these two boys for as long as possible.

The three Pawteers, then roamed explored city streets, sometimes chasing away small dogs and sometimes getting chased, by the nightfall the Pawteers had managed to secure an area around the pipe which they decided to make the bastion of their new kingdom. Unlike the other street gangs, these little unruly gang of three managed to get it together and never harassed a stray dog, and whereupon faced with another rival gang for territory battle, the battle lines were drawn by marking the territories in their unique way and defended fiercely and the streets of the city soon acknowledged this gang of three and no dog gang big or small went to pick up the fight at the old pipe yard that these Pawteers called home.

The adventures of these Pawteers will continue in future episodes.
