Benevolent Savages

Silence. Though the jungle chirped and sang with its own rhythmic cacophony, the silence was visible. All the jungle fowl was observing silence as the savage was passing amidst them. Taking their silent salutations, the savage didn't bother to even notice the beaver that had stopped midway of digging his new home, or scurrying of small fowls, who unaware that they would not even make a morsel for this savage, ran for their lives in vain. The savage didn't have time to pluck their soft plumes only to find a slice of small scanty meat attached to hollow bones. It needed a meal, suited to the king of the jungle.

Upon reaching the waterhole, the only social hub of the jungle folk, the cool breeze greeted the savage and informed him of the animals that were here to quench their thirst. Giving a quick surveilling look for possible disturbance in his familiar environment, the savage actually portrayed a modern housewife, who when after returning home from work though tired will walk around the house and will notice the smallest details that are out of place, a single glass moved an inch in her absence is noticed and quickly pondered upon. Finding all to his satisfaction, the savage let his guard down and still ensuring his apt hearing for smallest of rustle in leaves he stooped down to scoop water with his tongue, the cool water, immediately had a soothing effecting on his furry fat body and like a child, lapping at icecream, this savage then lapped water to his satisfaction.

The heat of the midsummer afternoon is very trying when you have a coat of fur permanently attached and the shade of a tree near the water hole is an ideal place to cool this perpetually overheated body. He would make a cozy bed in the damp mud under the shade of an ancient deodar tree and would doze the afternoon away.

No. this is not a jungle book, nor I am Rudyard Kipling, telling you yarns of this majestical beast who is the crown of Indian jungles.

This is to portray that the savagery of this benevolent savage, is limited to his basic instincts of hunger and never it has molested jungle fauna, for its gratification.  A hungry savage is a nightmare for those who will have the misfortune of becoming its food, but as soon as the hunger is satiated the jungle fauna has no fear since this savage is practically a saint just strolling and making sure his kingdom is doing ok.

There is no religion or culture in wild.  Of all the species that dwelled or dwell on this planet, no one practices culture and religion more than a species called human. We have created religions and cultures and decorated them with such elaborate traditions. Yet we are far from benevolence. Our religions do not protect the hungry and the poor, our cultures create a sense of prejudicial hatred in our tiny and courageless hearts and we are far from the quote of "The God Created Man In His Image".  This pseudo idealistic mentality changes its color more often than a humble chameleon in the dominion of God.

Wars and hatred are actually taught in the house of God of all colors, let us open our minds to see what we have become. We are the most uncivilized civil species on the planet. The children whom we boastfully call the flowers of Eden are molested and preyed upon at the very house of this so-called GOD. We have so much savagery that we hurt and abuse members of our species without a need or cause, the gratifications derived are so perverse and so fake that it makes one think and compare us with these benevolent savages of the jungle, who once satiated would never harm a small butterfly.

How we have become so uncivilized and unreligious? surely when our first thought of creating these wasn't to utilize it to manipulate and abuse someone  or was it? Ask this question to your own soul, who actually benefits from this cultural and religious facade. Who is a wolf in the sheepskin, salivating on the idea of preying upon the helpless?

It doesn't mean what we have achieved as human species is immaterial. This means, that in the process of becoming civilized and cultured we have unleashed the savagery that is not found in any other species. This savagery that dwells in the minds of weak and impotent is not limited to abuse,  it has its own versions. No call of nationalism, secularism, righteousness can lessen the intent of this savage mind. When compared to the humble savages of the wild, we are worse than we were before.

and when we come to such conclusions our mind takes refuge in the idea that perhaps the manifestation of religion was first made in the minds of weak and perverse, for no beast in the wild gratifies itself beyond the natural urges.  We do it for fun.  We should ponder where our civilization is taking us. Under the banner of god everything is justified, war, hatred, murders, rape even. How and when we have arrived at such conclusions in our minds, how our collective thinking has tanked so low, our morality becomes so selfish, our charity becomes so treacherous and ideals become so mired is something every one of us should think about.

This is not a debate its a rhetoric for us all, in finding soulful happiness we must together envision a world wild enough to gratify our needs and civilized enough to protect the helpless.

Let us conclude this episode with a short story of a lioness who when she satiated her hunger by killing and eating the mother antelope, adopted the calf. Now, this does not mean she had a change of heart or diet even. No, she will kill others but not the calf under her protection. This is in complete contrast to our civilized society and it is safe to say that even our own children aren't safe in our homes.

In this context our savagery is manifold to what is observed and seen in nature, it knows no benevolence like the savages of wild.

In the world of GOD or Nature, depending on your inclination. We are still primal, our suits and corner offices, our religious and worship centers, our institutions of knowledge, our roads and locality are still as unsafe as a cavernous cave because there is still a chance in the wild that if you pass a satiated tiger you can still survive. In our world, there is no such thing.
