Soulfull

Rajesh worked in a brick kiln, kneading wet clay, casting brick shapes, burning clay bricks in the kiln, was all he knew about the work and in his life. His parents came as migrant workers from the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. They worked all odd jobs before getting some kind of permanent situation in this brick kiln.

Rajesh was fond of motor vehicles, for when he was just a kid of brick kiln laborer, he would find himself a newly minted brick, and run it horizontally along with the soft dry clay, creating narrow lanes the size of the width of the brick and would travel into the make-believe world of cars. For him, cars held no brand names/tags, he was as unaware of Audi and BMW as that of a Rolls Royce. For him, all bricks were essentially cars. Sometimes he would crash them against one another to test which one is the toughest build, like how modern car manufacturers do with crash tests.

With little rough clay, he would sometimes make small mounds, where he would have a car motocross, why, can't a kid have his own all-terrain motocross vehicle?

This was the only game he played until he was the age, when as a young ox is made to work, so was he at the tender age of twelve involved in life-sustaining work of bricklaying. all he had to then was to pick up newly casted bricks and lay them in the sun so that they would dry out for their next phase in the kiln.

Now 15 years later, he is a supervisor at the same kiln, his employer found him hardworking and promoted him to the post, now he gets little more money for little less work. His parents are working in the same kiln working with him.  But the childhood dream of driving a car like the one his employer has is a dream very reachable. For now, he is saving to own a car of his own. Maybe his friend the garage mechanic Salim would help him find out the best car in his budget.

Salim, played with Rajesh, they grew up together, Salim's father owned a puncture shop adjacent to the kiln, and when Salim grew up, he joined the business with a new skill set of a car mechanic, which he learned while working as a laborer in a car garage 5 km away from his house.

So one fine day Salim and Rajesh went to the garage 5 km away to enquire after some old Maruti 800, that was being brought for resale. The car was already 15 years old and had driven some 2 lac kilometers before being brought to the garage for sale. But you see, Rajesh did not care about the kilometers driven, of milage or the color or the state. He just wanted the car.

So after a few hours of haggling on the price, the car was bought for the sum of 45000 Indian Rupees. Salim was little taken aback when Rajesh pulled out the wad of cash, how did he manage to come up with this kind of money? his salary isn't enough to sustain himself alone, leave about sustaining a family, and then let's not think about owning a car with the same salary.

So when Salim was driving the car back home with proud Rajesh sitting right next to him, he asked where did the money come from, to which Rajesh replied.

" Salim, you see, I have been saving from the time I knew I wanted a car of my own. it took a long time to save this much money, but it was worth the wait, for now, you see, I have a car of my own."
