No Castle For My Queen

She married a man of great determination, ambition, and grit. But he was neither the king nor a knight in shining armour, well at least not in his early days of struggle. The man worked in an Iranian restaurant servicing tables in the suburbs of Mumbai until he found an opportunity, after which we went on to create an empire, an empire people would awe and envy at the same time.

But this is not the story of the man or his empire, it's as the title suggests, it's a story of a queen. Often out of the courtroom and supporting her king every which way, she made him not only the knight in the shining armor but the emperor himself.

This story sound's more relatable, perhaps some of you might even have some memories coming back.

This is the story of Kokilaben Ambani, Wife of Dhirubhai Ambani, who went on to create a Reliance Industries empire fit for his queen.

This is nothing new you might say, everybody knows this story, perhaps more vividly than I could pen.

Wait ...but I am not here to tell you a story ... I am here to tell you about Perfectionism.

Relevance, Perfection is perhaps the epitome of human superficialness.

Many would, writhe and perhaps, smirk, and say this perhaps, "We learn Perfectionism from nature", this statement is as false as saying the earth is flat and we don't really want to understand how we can still sail beyond the horizon.

If nature is anything, it is an epitome of harmony, there is always a balance, nothing in nature is ugly, no female orangutan is subjected to ridicule, if she is little plump or looks dark, or her nose is little sideways or small or big.

Yes, I know what are you thinking, Alpha males, Beta Males, whatever greek numbers you can conjure is still a human invention to make his ego relevant.

There is no alpha male in nature, one can be stronger than the other, yet other males do have their own families, just to put it in a human context.

So why do males fight in nature, it's simply because of the urge to pass on the genes. It is such a strong urge that, even the most feeble of the young males do take on the most strong and experienced males.

Alphas anyone?

No this is not an animal planet content to rob you of your weekend, it is still about perfectionism and how the world around us is slowly becoming ugly because of it.

I do love cave stories, for they are far back into history, where the marketers didn't really weave a stereotypical world of what is desirable and what's not.

Right from the very books, we give to our children to the hollow world of fashion and cosmetics. Everything is revolved around perfectionism.

We all must have known a damsel in distress or a princess stranded at the castle, or kidnapped by a dragon ( now why would a dragon kidnap a princess put her in a high tower so that everyone will see, it's like robbing a bank, and then flashing cash around. Hilarious.

Why are we calling our daughters fairies and princesses and other names, which do epitomize the height of perfect superficialness?  This doesn't mean, you can't call your daughter that, just think why? Why not call her name, and teach her that being a human is as perfect as it can be.

Does anyone recall, parent's forcing their little kids, walk the ramp? who is at loss here? Certainly not the parent's for they are blinded by superficial perfectionism. It's the kids, for they are taught at an age where should be playing other kids their own age, that looking perfect matters for it is how the world works.

Well, it doesn't, sorry to burst your bubble. there is no castle out there, no treasure trove, no knight in shining armor, or the lady with long hairs (Rupenzel Right?).

Still, many may find this article offensive, for them, I am sorry for them, not the article of course.

Anyone sane who wants to overcome this perfectionism stereotype?

Here are some of the tips or tricks which you can work on.

  • Be Realistic.
    • Note that what neo and old consumerism says is not the word of god and you aren't anyway obliged to look this way or that. You are beautiful as a person, as a human being.
    • No amount of wealth lasts forever, though Rome wasn't built in a day, its empire did actually collapse in a few decades.
    • Having a castle or shining armor isn't really going to make the knight a better king, or a king a better emperor.
    • Building castles takes grit, determination, ambitions, and time.. the last one is most important.
    • Next time to look into a mirror, don't look for a person looking in a mirror, but a human within, and you will surely smile for that person is beautiful within.
  • Look out for false advertisements.
    • Nothing is more dangerous than chasing mirages in the desert. you will soon run out of water and your precious life.
    • A good thing must always come from a good source, a good thing coming from a bad source is ultimately bad.
    • Looks aren't that important, nor looking good boosts your self, rather accept you are good and you will have a better self.
    • Check whether you are influenced by someone's perceptions for, people even find fault in stars, if you know what I mean?
  • Be a better version of yourself, not the perfect one.
    • Let being perfect remain with gods and where they come from, for human life is beautifully flawed.
    • Don't justify just because you have to, sometimes being silent gives a better answer.
    • Stop looking out for Mr. or Mrs. Perfect. I am sure no one by that name exists in the known world.
    • Your soul is a mirror of the world, if you are good, you are sure to find the best in everything you see.
    • Lastly. To be flawed is human, to be imperfect is human, to be lesser in evil is human, to be lesser in hate is human, to be lesser in violence is human and to be lesser in perfectionism is human.

Back to our cave story, when desire urged as nature willed, the first hominid man did choose a hominid woman that was next to him, she was not at all beautiful as per current stereotypes, but for him, she was the one and for her, he was the one. His unkept cave became her castle, his club her jewel, when he did run back to her due to a hungry tiger or a hyaena chasing his back, he surely was her knight in shining armor.
